Ranch House Hike
Hike from the Visitor Center to the Oliver Lee Ranch House and back. This 4-mile walk is not rigorous, but plan on at least 4 hours for the walk. Topics discussed will be the desert shrub community and early ranching history. Please bring plenty of water, and snacks. Wear comfortable sturdy shoes and sun protection. Friendly pets are welcome but they must stay leashed while on park property. Meet at Visitor Center.

Dog Canyon Trail Hike
This will be a rigorous 1-mile hike but it will be guided at a leisurely pace. Hikers should plan on at least 2 hour to make the hike from the Visitor Center to the First Bench and back. The park’s naturalists will lead the hike and be available to answer visitor’s question about the history and natural wonders along the trail. Wear sturdy shoes; bring all-weather clothing, sun protection, bring plenty of water and snacks. Meet at Visitor Center.

The annual Camp Furlong Day event is a commemoration of the March 9, 1916 raid on the Village of Columbus, New Mexico by the troops of Francisco “Pancho” Villa and the subsequent “Punitive Expedition” led by General John “Black Jack” Pershing in an unsuccessful attempt to capture Villa.
