A late night visitor!

Desert Living Series
The Lake Night Visitor

Last night I was locking the doors before I went to bed  and I realized that the fountain outside my front door was still on.   I opened the door and was about to step outside when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.  It was a toad.  It was sitting on my couryard walkway looking for a midnight snack.  I think I startled the toad as much as it startled me.

Last year I saw these toads outside my door at night when the summer temperatures rose and when there was more humidity in the air.  This is the first one I’ve seen this summer.  Who would have guessed . . . toads and frogs in the desert!

If anyone knows the name of this particular toad, please post a comment about it.  I’ll write it up for our DesertUSA animal fact pages.

Thanks for reading!
