A Perry Special Guy

perry-collage

Steve Perry was nicknamed “The Voice” by Bon Jovi back in 1989. The moniker has stuck for more than 20 years and for good reason. I have my own thoughts about what makes Steve Perry, the former lead singer of Journey, special. No, it’s not the tight jeans nor the fabulous long hair, while those [...]

Bewitched, Bothered and Bamboozled

walter-the-car

You would think, after being the proud owner of several cars, I would not be surprised when a visit to a car dealership or a mechanic’s shop turns out to be an unpleasant experience.

From my first car, a Fiat 850, to my current ride, a Chevy Tracker, each car has had some problems. That is to be expected. Cars wear out. They get tortured in collisions or they simply die.

Lady, are you in a rut?

Do you do the same thing, the same way, every day? After a shower, do you dry your hair before your body or the other way around? Does it feel weird if you do it backward? How about washing your face — before or after you brush your teeth? I decided I was in a [...]

Peeps in the wild — a cautionary tale

peeps_1e-sm

In this desert lived a unique people called “Peeps.” Peeps came in many shapes, Chicked-dy Chicks, Wascally Wabbits and a variety of other beings, depending on the season — Plump Punkins’, Ghastly Ghosts and Christmas Trees. They lived faithfully with each other.

Peep Peep cheep cheep

Thousands, no, probably tens of thousands of little beady eyes watched me enter the store. The official greeter said, “Welcome to Wal-Mart.” There were shelves overflowing with fluorescent pink, blue and purple creatures, impossible colors in nature.

Super Bowl No. 1 and I was there. . .

superbowl_i

… except it wasn’t called the Super Bowl in those long ago days. Officially it was the AFL-NFL World Championship Game  — played on Jan. 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Off camera, media pundits called it the Super Bowl. After that, the name stuck until here we are at Super Bowl No. [...]

What do you want to ask the universe?

I have been thinking too much again and it is keeping me awake — again. There are things in the universe I don’t understand, questions that can’t be answered on Google. Have you ever noticed that most everything can be answered on Google? I asked my friends what they would like to know. K.Y. says, [...]

Root beer and self-awareness

It started as a simple search. What makes an excellent root beer and how does one become a connoisseur of root beer? Really, all I wanted to find out was who makes the best root beer. I remember my dad making root beer in the basement of our house in Peru, New York. Or maybe [...]

Weep Not: Cemetery visitors celebrate life not death

cemetery_robinsonLHartley_sm

Are cemeteries haunted by the dead or the living? Do marble angels watch over the souls who search among silvery tombstones for names, dates and stone flowers? Call them grave hunters, genealogists or historians, gravers, tombstone tenders, stone strollers or death hags. Just don’t call them morbid. Or ghouls. Or heaven forbid, necrophiliacs. Technically they [...]
