It's about time!!!!!! here in SF, (best tap water in the world!!!!!! from HetchHetchy, Yosemite!!!!!), we've outlawed bottle water from City buildings years ago. Get a Brita, drink from the tap, bottled water is Soooo politcally incorrect, & wasteful, 1/4 of the bottle is used for transport, fuel. peace, Lenny

Happy Birthday Arizona, my favourite US State. I am very fond of the desert environment and the down to earth attitude. I particularly like the Yuma area and surrounding desert landscape. Best of luck for the next 100 years.

Excellent idea. I stopped using many plastic containers for food and water storage because of DEHP and as the story said it creates a huge amount of unnecessary waste.

I was on Lippincott pass and south Saline Valley a while ago, those roads definitely need more warning...
the stones are razor sharp and the road is partially unrecognizeable.
Especially Lippincott pass should get a sign at the botton/turn off from Saline Valley road similar to the one that is there when one drives down.
I could very easily have gotten stuck out there...
no cellphone reception, no natural water, people could die.
(I did have 10 gallons with me so I could have hung out for a while.)

I have always loved the outdoors .... since I was a wee bairn. I was born and raised as an "Army brat" and got to travel around the US of A quite a bit in my younger days. I'm now 62 yrs. old and still have a LOT of curiosity about "how things work and why." I have always been a BIG fan of our national parks, monuments, national forests, and historical areas, but have paid VERY little attention to the BLM "properties." Living here in the East (Tenn. to be exact), there are very few BLM areas over this way, but ... my heart's always been in the western US anyhow. I am grateful that all of these areas have been set aside for all of us ... and believe MUCH more ought to be set aside, before they are further destroyed by greedy, commercial interests.

Thank you Beckey. Too bad that you can't attend, but I know that Ben will share your book with vigor, he has told me what a great book it is. This is an exciting event for the Hi-Desert. Thanks for responding.

Dear Mojave,

Great article! Gunsmoke fans are in for a real treat that evening! Ben and the many others that will join him have many wonderful Gunsmoke memories and information to share. As author of Amanda Blake's biography, Perfectly Amanda: Gunsmoke's Miss Kitty, I most certainly wish that I could join the group as well! However, that is the first day back to school (I'm a teacher) AND I live in far away Indiana! I wish you and everyone there the very best evening possible and lots of great Gunsmoke memories among friends! Take care, Beckey Burgoyne

El mirage dry lake has now become a private capmground ,all fenced in with entrence fees. The senor advantage passes are not valid and one must now pay to enter..As one can see on any weekend the lake is now almost enpty I now go to lucern or nearby rabbit dry lake where one can roam with freedom. the worst part when one is there one is hassesed not to do this or not to do that, show proof of insurance or be cited for anything.else. the Ranger there hires family members to clean toilets twice a month at 60 k a year.The. worst part is there is no accountability on fees collected. it's time for the inspector general to look at which pockets these funds are going. email the department of the interior and lets open up this place for us weekend worriors to enjoy once again
