Family: VERBENACEAE

Height: 8-18 inches

Description: The tubular flowers are to 1/2" wide which form showy headlike clusters. Flowers have 5, joined, notched, petals. Stems are square.

Leaf: Leaves are simple, lobed/toothed, hairy, to 1.5" long.

Range: e Mojave Desert, ne Sonoran Desert

Habitat: Sandy soils, washes, rocky slopes

Elevation: 1200–2000 m.

Flowering time: Apr-Jun

Notes: Verbena gooddingii, a dicot, is a perennial herb that is native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. This photo was taken on May 5, 2004 in the upper elevations of the Mojave National Preserve, San Bernardino County, California.
