Description: Flower: 4 satiny petals 2–3 cm shed after pollination. Inflorescence: flowers solitary at the tip.
Leaf: Smooth or minutely toothed.
Range: s Northwestern California, Cascade Range Foothills, Sierra Nevada Foothills, Central Western California, Southwestern California
Habitat: Dry slopes, washes, especially recent burns
Elevation: < 1800 m.
Flowering time: FEB-APR
Notes: Photographed San Gabriel Mtns. May 29, 2004. Although not strictly listed as a desert plant, it is easily found in desert-like locations of the San Gabriel Mtns. This shrub is a fire-follower. A dicot, is a shrub that is native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Distribution outside California: n Baja California
