Height:
Stem 10 to 30 cm

Description:
Dark pink 7 to 11mm flower, with five pointed petals. Flower grows within the leaves or on erect stem.

Leaf:
Roundish, almost holly-like in a basal rosette with fine glandular hairs.

Range:
California White and Inyo mountains, Mojave Desert. Also Arizona, Nevada, Utah.

Habitat:
Rocky slopes, washes, bajadas, desert pavement.

Elevation:
< 600 m

Flowering time:
Apr-May

Notes:
Common annual, strong scented usually growing in very hot, exposed environments. This example was photographed on desert pavement near the junction of Kelbaker Road and National Trails Highway, Mojave Desert, near Amboy, Calif., March 2005.
