Tom,
There are actually quite a few pine trees in that area. There used to be more, but the bark beetle has ravaged many of them. I love listening to the wind blow through the pine needles. Still, I can understand how a whole bunch of pine trees would get annoying.

Re: Yucca Valley to Lucerne
Glad you all liked the report! Yes, I love to share the things I find, but I am very careful not to give away too many details. If someone is curious enough, the spots can be found, but I refuse to list coordinates on the Internet. I am also willing to lend a hand to those who are willing to do some...

Re: Cow Protection League
This is a great thread! It reminds me of part of a story written by Bob Hoover, VW mechanic, pilot, writer, and a bunch of other things. _________________________________________________________________________________ Ever worked cattle? You gotta use horses, generally two a day. Terrible work; not...

Re: Prayers needed for Sandman
I only know Sandman on the Internet, but I consider him to be a good friend. He and I have had a number of conversations through email, and he has always been very helpful and informative. Sandman is one of the few off-roaders who enjoys the desert as I do - from a peaceful exploratory standpoint. I...

Re: Mojave Cross goes missing
Lara, You're probably right about the government (the BLM in the cases I've seen) being the ones removing everything. I have seen giant V8 diesel generators in place on their mounting pads one year, only to discover it missing the next. It takes a good sized flatbed and a portable crane to move some...

Re: Mojave Cross goes missing
Yeah, I don't actually believe it was stolen for scrap either, but I'm glad you understand my frustration. One of the worst cases I have seen involved the remains of a '50 Ford which had been sitting at the western edge of Harper Dry Lake for who-knows-how-long. It looked like it had been there for ...

Re: Mojave Cross goes missing
The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if the first cross was stolen for its scrap value. Since the economy went south, I have noticed literally TONS of metal being removed from all parts of the desert. Old cars are disappearing. Interesting old equipment is being removed from mines. Enti...

Re: Darwin award
It's easy to see how some of these people can have so little regard for our natural areas. They have no regard for their own lives or the lives of their loved ones!
