The Hog Canyon rattle snake faker.

I remember when I read about Julia's and Reiney's attempt to find the LDM they had ended up in Hog Canyon. Apparently there was something in the area after dark that had sounded like rattle snakes that caused Julia to get up on a boulder and shoot at the supposed rattle snakes. One of the theories a...

Re: DID WALTZ LIE TO JULIA AND RHINEY???

I'll just cover this briefly as it is getting outside of the topic of this thread not to mention this forum in general. I have done some extensive reseach on the end times and the Book of Revelation in a wish to fulfill a childhod dream of mine to uncover some of the players in the Book of Revelatio...

Re: WHY DO PEOPLE READ ABOUT TREASURES BUT DON'T SEARCH OR R

I can't say for most people, but I am more interested in the history of the Superstitions and the LDM than I am in actually finding the mine. If I really wanted to get gold, I think I'd join one of those mining clubs and do some placer mining in an area where gold is known to be found such as the Bu...

Re: The Killer Mountains

Based on what I have read in Helen Corbin's book 'The Dutchman's Curse', I think the mine was indeed found by two men while in the 1880's or 90's. I don't remember what their names were. They were out looking for the LDM mine when they find a lode of gold high up in a ledge of Fish Creek Canyon near...

Re: DID WALTZ LIE TO JULIA AND RHINEY???

Perhaps Waltz was not really very active with the Free Masons. It's very likely that he had gotten involved with that before coming to the Phoenix area. When did the Masons first show up in Phoenix anyway? Maybe there was no lodge here yet when Waltz was alive. As for being a Catholic and being a pa...

Re: WHY "HOG CANYON" ISNT THE CORRECT STARTING POINT

Julia and Reiney from what I can tell were very inexperienced. Reiney definately wasn't paying full attention to Waltz and it's possible Julia wasn't either. Neither of these two had ever been in the Superstions before and so had no real frame of reference in which to correctly understand what Waltz...

Re: DID JULIA SELF-PROMOTE THE LDM LEGEND?

Your analysis is probably closest to correct Alan And Herman’s later divulging information may explain it. Nonetheless it seems a bit uncanny Being that out of the box thinking might be necessary maybe the August moon as something to do with the location ? Or some other seasonal anomaly? You know i...

Re: The Peralta Trail Cave

I have seen that cave when I hiked to Freemont Saddle from the Peralta trailhead in Aug. of 2008. It is on the right side of the trail about 3/4 of the way to Freemont Saddle. It is a very small cave. Entering it is probably not advisable as it might have some rattle snakes in it and it would be a v...

Those definately are some beautiful pics. Sort of reminds me of Hog Canyon in the Superstitions.

Barkley Basin Panorama

I was experimenting with a panorama program that came with my camera. I had 3 pictures overlooking Barkley Basin from the Bluff Springs trail near Peralta Trailhead. So I stitched them together and came up with a rather decent panorama of Barkley Basin with Miner's Needle in it. Hope everyone enjoys...
