Re: Creosote v. sagebrush

Poll link didn't work. But I'll elaborate on the question. For me it's creosote! I love the earthy, clean, and unique odor. To me, it defines the "desert smell", and I've never tired of it in the 30 years I've been wandering through the desert lands.

Re: Scamming A Gold Scammer

Thanks Beth and tradclimber! These links were very telling and informative! I have received several nigerian 419 attempts this last year, and I ended them by simply saying; "thanks, I could use some cash, as I only have $20.00 in my checking account". Needless to say, this ended the corres...

Re: A Rare Occurrence & Photo OP

I had something happen to me that I still can't believe and it involves good-ole Wiley Coyote. A few days ago I was driving down a two-lane highway and up ahead I noticed what appeared to be a dog running along the road on the shoulder. My immediate thought was that someone's dog had escaped from t...

Re: More petroglyph damage

I simply cannot imagine, nor comprehend, why someone would desecrate and/or vandalize petroglyphs. I used to become irritated with many websites choosing to NOT disclose specific locations of petroglyph panels. I am a lover of petroglyphs, and seek out as many locations as I possibly can. However I ...

Re: Norm Johnson

Reptilist, If I'm not mistaken, I remember Norm from about 10 or eleven years ago, when I first discovered desertusa. He was a great guy, and always had a wonderful sense of humor! I regret the news that he has passed on. Please accept my condolences. Men like him are scarce in this mixed up world. ...

.......And yet, our public lands are being given away to private corporations to exploit for profit energy generation projects. I believe private corporations should supply their own capital and buy their properties from the private sector instead of relying on corporate socialism at the expense of...

Re: Friends of Nevada

Excellent post, Desert Wanderer. I have a bit to add. Yuccahead said, "If you want something and can afford it then buy it and do whatever you want with it and if you make a profit then you're a good buisnessman.". That's a very conservative viewpoint, and it doesn't work in today's liber...

Re: Friends of Nevada

They are Nevada's version of Natures Conservancy. Private organizations buying up and running public lands, for friends and profits. This is one gripe I guess I'll never understand. It's the very basis of the American Way, the American Dream and capitalism - If you want something and can afford it ...

Re: Talk about a nice pair of hooters!

You are one lucky guy! In the 473 days I've gone camping in the last 20 years, I've only seen Owls twice! It's one of my favorite wilderness sounds in the dark, lonely night. My favorite being the wolf! Where did you spot that magnificent creature? I'd love to know!
