Lust for Gold/Movie

Post by roc2rol »

I lucked out and was able to borrow this movie from the library
What can I say?
It actually a well-produced movie.

The story line a bit jaded
and historically it way out there

Lots of action though
and some good shots of the Supes
Closest I’ll ever get to Weaver Needle
Unfortunately

I copped this image

Image

Thought it might have some value
It was the map that Buckley had on him

Anyway any one see the movie ?
Comments?
Have any back-story on Barry Storm involvement ?

Uhhhh - where to begin?? Lust for Gold takes the meaning of ‘artistic license’ to new heights – or should I say depths. The epitome of ‘never let the facts get in the way of a good story.’

IF I lived in Phoenix (but I don't) I would be tempted to do a re-shoot - see my avatar…… who wants to play Jacob Waltz?

Cheers,
Ashton

Lust For Gold is purely for entertainment purposes Roc :) I love some of the scenes from the Superstitions, but besides that Ashton has it right.

is there any factual truth in any of Barry Storm's acccount
is it possible that some truth is buried in the Hollywood version ?

I suppose Barry Storm & Hollywood wanted the movie
not turn out to be a documentary
they accomplished that goal

I'd play Waltz
just because Wiesner fate seems doomed
if he existed

so even the map is Hollywood?

As far as I know, the map was a holywood mockup - I may be wrong, and it's been awhile since I've seen the movie, but I don't remember much fitting the legends as we know them.

Ha Ha Paul
You;ll notice there is a piece ripped off the map
the explantion in the movie was that all maps are altered
heck the doctor mentions---
that half the people in Maricopa County
have indigestion cause they eat their maps
:?
all the direction are memorized
8-)

barry storm intersts me
especially Thunder Gods book
I couldn't get into that thread
but they were talking about sources that Barry referenced
intersting

Barry Storm references as a credible source in Thunder God's Gold
a person named Andy Star who lived in the Supers around 1910

Does anyone have any info on who this Andy Star may be?

Thanks again

Hi Roc,

Bertie Roberts gave some info regarding 'Andy Starrer' to Corbin (Bible pg 118). Glover writes about Waltz giving Andrew his homestead in return for Andrew taking care of Waltz for the rest of his natural life. A curious arrangement, to say the least.

Anyway, yes there was an Andrew Starrer who was involved with Jacob Waltz. I know the movie says 'Andy Star' - but that's Hollywood for you. I used to fight with my writers constantly because they always believed that every point had to be stressed (over-stressed in my opinion) in order for the audience to 'get it' - and out of the ordinary names like Starrer got shortened to Star... Just my experience, maybe other filmmakers will have a different story to tell.

I know you're drawn in to the film - but remember, films are intentionally written (fictionalzed is more like it) with the intent to, and for the express purpose of; drawing people into the plot. In all honesty, I believe 'Lust for Gold' will simply cloud the waters for you down the road when you're trying to piece things together.

As I have said before - I am convinced that the first person who is able to discard all the fables and fiction that is muddying up the waters - will be able to walk right to the mine.

Best,
Ashton

OOPS

Sorry, Roc. I got my wires crossed. I see you were referencing Barry Storm and not Lust for Gold.

My Apologies,

Ashton

That’s fine Ashton !

I don’t want you to get the impression that I think the movie’s plot is factual. I’m not one who believes Jacob Waltz was an out of control murdering individual.

But I do think Barry Storm had pertinent information. Sifting those few nuggets out from his muddled fantastical imagination is another story. I had never seen the movie. So after reading the book I watched the movie for any embedded information. I think anyone who’s interested in the LDM should watch it.

Who knows? The movie is historically important just for the scenery. Excellent shots of Weaver needle and with new sources of information about heartshapes and such…. well maybe… someone could spot something-- that as other wise gone unnoticed?

But back to Thunder God Gold the book. I read it a few months ago. I got interested because the issue of the massacre came up.
That when I saw that Barry Storm referenced an Andy Star.

I’m real interested in the Starrar Bros. Andrew -- I forget the other brother name.

They both played quite a role in the formation of Phoenix. They too were gold prospectors, were supposedly related to Waltz, and lived nearby in the Phoenix homestead. I think they were Waltz’s shadow source.

But the referenced source in the book is of an individual who lived in the Supers around 1910’s. This could not be one of the aforementioned Starrar Bros.

Could it be a son?

Never heard the name mentioned before in any other Dutchman literature.

I had all my sources ready and tried to post this information in the other thread. But it was locked, time passes and things get misplaced. Much like the LDM, I suppose.
