That could be, but the problem with that is Waltz said the cache wasn't far from the mine.....

Thanks
Travis

Actually just a small cache somewhere close to the edge of the mountains. This would help keep him from being tracked to the actual location and convenient for a quick grab if he needed the money. Just a thought.

Like I said, that's completely possible. I've just never read anywhere that Waltz said he had a cache closer to Phoenix. But I have read where Waltz said "you can't find one without discovering the other", when referring to the mine and his cache.

Thanks

Once again I have to ask:
is Waltz’s obituary online?
As I recall there was a very telling remark in that obit.
A remark that makes me feel that Julia was exaggerating tales.
Yet, it could just be an over enthusiastic remark made by a naïve person.
g'day

Roc,

I have seen the obit' but don't recall that kind of slant. Have to look
it up again.

Found it here: http://books.google.com/books?id=TkY5Ma ... ry&f=false

Take care,

Joe

The fact that Julia was selling maps to the LDM
Tells me that she had no clue as to it's location

Alan,

I would say if Julia had no clue, no one else does either.

Good luck,

Joe

Joe,

Just because Julia couldn't follow directions, is no reason to assume nobody else can. She, along with others, did leave those directions behind. They may be a little scrambled, it just takes an "avid" reader to unscramble them. ;)

Thanks Joe!

A few months ago you made me aware that the obit was in Corbin’s book.
By the time I went to the library and borrowed it my original intent got lost.
Anyway it is valuable link --as it seems like the full text is actually online.

Yet there is a slight problem. The last line of the obituary is barely legible.
I believe it says something to the affect that when Waltz died he had a
‘a blessing on his lips’.

I’m not sure of the exact wording.
But I always found that strangely uncanny.
Even bizarre.

So where did the writer of the obit get that info?
(Maybe the writer was Bicknell)?
Anyway it would seem that it came from Julia.
It definitely implies a heavy assumption
that something of value was imparted.
To whom or to who seems lacking?

And being that it is a public obituary
one can only image the curious effect
it must have had on the citizens of Phoenix?
Old-timer Waltz’ s passing with a promising last word!
Revelation! Wonder! Mystery!

It shines a very interesting light on hearer of this promise.
Certainly it’s the beginning, and potential of confabulations,
of legendary tales.

Roc,

The newspaper reporters were not to interested in letting the facts get in the way of a good story. They had a tendency to put whatever sounded good into their stories.

From what I know of what took Waltz's life, I doubt he said anything at the moment of death. In fact, I doubt he said much that was coherent that night....at all. The
thing you hear the most in the last hours is......"help me".

Take care,

Joe

Well let me ask this

If Julia and Rheiny hadn’t made their ‘queer quest’ into the Supers
do you think the LDM would have just remained an unknown promise?

Thanks
