Ryan,

I am very interested in the history of Travis and your post below certainly piqued my interest.

In the mid 1930’s Travis moved to Arizona. He worked at a mine with his wife Alleen ( pronounced AL – EEN ). Their job was to tend to the donkey’s that would bring ore out of a copper mine owned by the modern day company, Rio Tinto. Travis worked in mining for about 3.5 years, according to records verified by the HR Department of Rio Tinto. Many thought Travis’ first time in Arizona was on a road trip to visit family in 1949, this is not the case.

While Travis’ was working for the copper mine ( the name of the series of claims was called “Walnut Canyon” ) – he would start to investigate many of the treasure tales and legends within Arizona.

Janie passed along a similar story several years ago which she probably got from some of the documents in the locker. She only addressed it casually and I don’t know how in depth her understanding of the actual details or how long it had been since she had actually reviewed the information.

Her short version was that Travis worked in mining before he went to Hood River, Oregon. She thought the mine was in California and that maybe it was a coal mine. Travis didn’t work below ground but was employed above ground and she mentioned the donkey connection.

Since you have the documents from the mining company, I don’t know whether she was passing along a family story or there was something in the locker.

I don’t want to put you on the spot but I couldn’t conjure up a scenario in which the family would mind sharing this kind of information.

Would you post the images that allowed you to reach the conclusion that Travis and Alleen were in Arizona at this early date. I’m particularly interested in the time frame, where they were living and anything about the type of mine. I know that some copper mines yield small amounts of other valuable minerals.

Don't go sparingly on the images. :D

Thanks in advance,

Garry
Hey Garry! Nice to hear from you! I’ll give you a call shortly

I'm not following all of this as closely as I would like due to work and real life issues right now, but I'm hoping you can address Garry's question on the forum as well as personally with him.

With a proper understanding of the artistic expression Travis employed in the creation of "The Rocks" - you will be led out of the Superstitions - walking in the same footsteps where a cunning man of yesteryear dedicated his life to love, mystery, fortunes and intrigue.

Along the trail of many places - you will find this heart. The reader has always been challenged to do so - "BUSCA EL COAZON".

Carved in the late 1940's by Travis Tumlinson, measuring exactly 12 inches by 12 inches and 6 feet off the ground, this heart is the marker that signifies the beginning and the end. A goodbye to the past and a heartfelt welcoming of the future. "Adios Antiqua", as Travis put it.

Do not be fooled by the antics of the old timers and those that lack vision. The remaining answers to the rocks are still out there - and they are waiting for you to discover them. The answers are quite simple when you can set yourself free from the cages of your own ideas.

"It is any one’s treasure at this point! If you can find it, it is yours!"
-Travis Tumlinson - Challenge for Superstition Gold

Happy Hunting and may luck be in your favor.

Ryan,
Not even close, And Janie believe 100 percent her dad
was honest and found the Stones as he said, And he broke
the heart stone while cleaning them not knowing it was removable. I'm sure a master carver could of just made a new one. Maybe you should have met her then you would
have had a story! Any body that buys into your story or the Matchbox or the known Dutchman's ore samples need
there head examined.

Wayne sure would like to see your little Stones though.

Yeah, I watched it, but never the less he's not Janie.
He say's one thing then jumps to how Travis did find stuff
Even you use to call him a fraud. Not any of your carvings
Are similar to the maps.

Produce one real piece of evidence and I might believe
You. But I New Janie, and she would grab you by the ear
And give you a piece of her mind.

Wishing you all the best of luck in your quest! You never met Janie - and I certainly haven’t ever spoke poorly of anyone in the family. They are great people and I’ve been honored to tell their story. Perhaps we will see you out in the mountains sometime? Would be nice to meet you.
