potatoes

I'm curious if any of you Az rockhounders have run across any of these in your hounding travels. I call 'em potatoes because that's what they remind me of.

They're pretty abundant in Idaho
the variety in Arizona are most likely

wonder what the white knobs are minerally ?
and is the brown matrix ancient mud?

Hey Ed, the white nodules are agate and the brown matrix is a desert crust of some sort. When sliced open, this usually what is inside. Soooo, by the lack of opascity and the mohs hardness (7+), I'm assuming these are a type of jasper.
Ed,you may have noticed the big red/ green one the middle kinda resembles a rockin heart I did this year

you say these potatoes are in the Holbrook area?

a friend of mine brought me a couple of those potatoes
he visited Meteor Crater and later did some meteorite hunting
around the Holbrook area
some day I'm going to try to polish a slab
have you cabbed any?
any pic?
