Kurt - I like the shape of the bighorn in the background rock. From the photo it looks like natural erosion, but it's still cool

Casca, what is it you actually see in your photo?
Hi Cub,
I see a god head looking south. This was taken in New Mexico. I was surprised to find what I believe to be other than Spanish signs at this spot. There appears to be others marks and such I don't believe to be used by the Spanish visitors.
I was looking at a open pit mine when I discovered this. Also having read some about the Geological history of the area, I soon learned that this area holds a lot of silver and some gold.
To back up and make my post even more confusing, I was excited to read about Padre La Rue, and his renegade mine supposedly being very close by.
Now how does all this tie into the Mayans or other ancient civilizations in the Superstitions. Water, campsites, a defensible positions, are some things that could link the Spanish with the Mayans. I believe it goes back before the Mayans. Another thread.
But face it, gold and silver seem to be the common link. So locating Mayan signs in a area could mean there is a more modern mine placed and concealed there by the Spanish. When I say Spanish, I mean the early Spanish not under order yet to do otherwise. I feel they would be the only ones capable of such a act.
This interest me as I wish to do some prospecting in the Fall and I will be looking for the older Monuments. I am looking at sites here now in New Mexico for the same purpose. If it did happen as I believe it has, it would not just be here in New Mexico.
I believe the Indians, of the time could answer many questions we have of the superstitions. Since Im new and not versed on every aspect you all talk about here. I wont smear up the board with what I am studying. I think there is some very strong fellinmgs about this, and I hesitate to join in on controversial subjects.
