I'm very happy to read this Terry, thanks for posting it. Now let's just hope that it stays there...

Now I just heard on the news that the cross may have to come back down. Apparently the National Park Service, (I think that was it), says it doesn't comply with the court ruling. What a mess!

I'm almost of the mind of building a huge cross and putting it in plain view on "My Property" and see if anyone has the huevos to tear it down.

I just now heard on the news that the cross has once again been removed by orders of the park service. This is all just crazy!

Replacement Memorial Cross Torn Down

"This is absurd," ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow said. "It's appalling that vandals would remove a cross which has survived a constitutional challenge at the nation's highest court. What's even more troubling is the fact that the federal government is opposed to permitting a replica cross to be put in place..."

The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if the first cross was stolen for its scrap value. Since the economy went south, I have noticed literally TONS of metal being removed from all parts of the desert. Old cars are disappearing. Interesting old equipment is being removed from mines. Entire water tanks are missing from old ranch sites. It's as if a giant magnet were hovering over the desert, taking all the metal objects with it. I don't think these are organized clean-ups either, as there is still plenty of trash and other debris around - just nothing made of metal.

My wife came home from work yesterday and was telling me that one of her customers was telling her about all the hassle she and her husband had when they took some scrap metal to the recycler. Not only that but the metal prices have dropped from what they were not too long ago. We have a bunch of scrap metal around the property but she said not to bother with it right now. It doesn't surprise me that people are going-out in to the desert to collect metal, it's too bad that they didn't have the same concern and energy to pick-up all the trash while they're at it.

I doubt that the cross was stolen for it's scrap value but I know what you mean.
