I was at a Borders Bookstore a couple of weeks ago and got to the outdoor section to find a dozen new books on survival...a dozen! not counting all the books that have been out for years. This whole survival thing is played out, give it a rest.
The TV show The Office did a spoof on survival shows a couple of years ago that was hilarious and pretty much showed how ridiculous the whole genre has become.

Surviving in the superstitons is easy if you camp next to water, even in bare feet!!

Hehe - that's a very good point SH - water is the major key to survival out there.

That does make me think of something though, and I believe I mentioned it once on a forum (whether it was this one or not, I'm not sure). Although I carry a water purification apparatus and iodine pills with me when hiking out there, and if push came to shove, I would drink any water in order to survive, have you ever wondered what could contaminate some of those pools of water?

With the mining that's gone on out there since who knows when, and the fact that there ARE mercury deposts in the mountains, I've often wondered what the levels of cyanide and/or mercury could be in some of those pools of water.

Cubfan I have seen people who have drank the water out there.they become dreamy after a long period of drinking the water. You can evaporate it and get some good water to drink if you have the time.

You mean boil it?

Or do you mean making a still to cause condensation so it drips into a smaller container inside of a larger one?

I had to drink some of that mineral rich water once...very coppery...So coppery in fact, I threw it right back up. So I just wet my lips and swished it in my mouth...Same effect! That water was poison!

rppp01a Do most people hike with pans for boiling water? you can evaporate it using your survival blanket. You can make a three stage filter using grass, leaves, sand and some burned wood to filter urine and other dirty water. There are so many different ways to clean potential water and to produce water from plants and soil. Desert animals like snakes and lizzards ect retain water and make a great source of moisture just suck out there fluids.

like snakes and lizzards ect produce there own water and make a great source of moisture.
Huh?
Their prey provides some moisture, but they all drink water whenever they can.

(Kangaroo rats don't drink water, they get their fill from seeds.)
