Odd Day

Post by Space Cowboy »

Sunday, around 6 in the morning, the temperature on the patio was 52 degrees. Considering this is August in Southern California, this is hard to accept. Later, around noon, I was squishing the home-grown tomatoes for canning when I heard a clacking noise that was vaguely familiar. I looked up and across the back yard, standing on top of the chain link fence was the biggest roadrunner I'd ever seen. I mean, really big. At least a foot tall. I couldn't guess her length. She was gray and just standing there flicking her tail. Just as the kids finally came out from the house as I'm bellowing for them to come see, she does this comical leap and flick and lands on the other side of the fence. Would have made the cartoon character proud. Then, around four, the coyotes started howling up the hill, first one, then a pretty impressive chorus. That went on for an hour. Middle of the day.

I suppose we should brace for more earthquakes.

Quite right, Vulture, but squishing tomatoes and electronics in the near vicinity does not sound amenable.
