Hi all!

This is such an awesome resource! Just looking through one of Desert Magazine's 1937 issues was so cool - I am really glad you can access something like that online now, in a much more readable format. The articles are still informative, and the pictures are great! There's a really cool article on a sandstone home an older couple built in Niland; the accompanying pictures are beautiful.

Thanks so much for passing along such an incredible look at desert history. I can't wait to read some of the Salton Sea resort articles from the 60s!

-Michelle :)

Hi Michelle,
I'm glad you like the site.... If you go to the tab labeled " Demo ", there is a updated story of the Niland house with new pictures... and btw the bench that was in the original issue is still on the front porch today !!!! Amazing over 60 years later and it's still there...

Hi Gang,
We just finished the last of the last issues.... WE were able to locate the 5 missing issues from Joan Brooks ( 92-93 ) and they have been uploaded.... Here's the link:

Hi Historik!

Thanks for the warm welcome. That IS amazing, that the same bench is still there. Can't wait to check out the updated Nyland house pictures. It seems like the more cookie-cutter our new construction homes look, the more authentic and inviting the one-of-a-kind homes like the Nyland house become. :)

I just checked out the Nyland article update - so cool! I wish they had more information about the family and what's happened over the years; talk about something standing the test of time! Then again, those 18" rock walls probably had a lot to do with it. Thanks again for the update link!

My Grandparents were good friend of Randall Henderson's. I have a huge stack of those old magazines in a closet.

Hi Guz,
I met Evone Riddell last year, she is Randall's daughter, and had her autograph the Nov 7 issue.... I will always treasure the meeting I had with her... She was in her 90's and allowed me to stay for quite some time.... I also just found someone who has the VERY rare 1936 " test " edition and he is suppose to send me a copy for the site. Not many people are aware of this issue....

Thx
