Shoe Tree Destroyed

Post by Plays In The Dirt »

I heard on the news this morning that a vandal/vandals have chopped-down the well known "Shoe Tree" on Highway 50 near Fallon Nevada. What goes on in the minds of people like this?

So...are you refering to the juvenile morons that "decorated" a perfectly good tree with their stinking garbage or the idiots that cut down a pefectly good tree for no good reason?

At least someone will get some firewood and the local homeless will get some footwear. The shoe tree out on Hwy 62 in Calif. near Vidal Jct. was burnt down about 5-6 years ago. Nothing but ashes and a big pile of stinkin', melted rubber left after that.
Probably the same people.
Domestic shoe tree terrorists.

I've entertained a similar notion.
In fact I do believe,
One or more of these terrorists are in my house right now!

I thought the story had a great ending to it... A husband and wife argue after JUST being married, the wife says she's leaving, and the husband says you'll have to go barefoot and throws her shoes in the tree ( 1980's ). Goes to the bar and the bartender convinces the husband to go back to his wife and apologize...... One year later they come back with their newborn child and threw the child's shoes into the tree as well.... I can remember being in the Army back in the mid to late 70's and it was tradition to throw a set of one's boots into the trees when your time was up... Graffiti is wrong, but this seems a bit harmless to me... It's just a shame that someone had to cut it down, even the people in town were very upset. People came to see the tree and that brought business... and now this will cause people financial burden...

Historik!

Welcome to the forums!

I agree with that. I think I left my boots over a phone line in Baumholder Germany.
