Arches National Park
Not a pretty sight: forest tent caterpillars (Malacosoma disstria) are munching their way through Moab's (and Arches') cottonwood trees. They defoliate with shocking effectiveness but don't usually kill the tree; the park does not use insecticides to combat them. We may find it unsightly, but it will pass.

The crows are quite likely a victim of the west Nile there as they have been in southern California.

Our ravens here in Moab wouldn't waste their time on insects - not when they can open ice boxes and backpacks to dine on real tourist food.
