these are awesome pics of neat places. i hope that more exposure of them on the net does not cause further vandalism. i think we are caught between wanting to share what we see and protect what we see from more damage from irresponsible people. it is a conundrum those of us that like to explore face.

that said, i would love to make this drive one day - when it cools down a bit. maybe with another rig or two along.

Fantastic photos and narrative about the desert. I imagine you are talking about the Mohave Desert after looking at the Mohave Cement bags. I had an Uncle that worked at the cement mill in Oro Grande near Victorville.

Lara, we had a high of 85 when we went there in June. At 5,700 feet, it isn't really all that hot! Let me know when you want to go, and I will gladly lead the way!

Tom, all the photos were indeed taken in the Mojave Desert, and the house was not all that far from Victorville. It's interesting that your uncle worked at the cement plant. I'm pretty sure I have been by there a time or two in the past.

Uncle Harvey Wagner work at Oro Grande for over twenty years. Prior to that he was the hoist operator at the old Tennessee Mine in Chloride, Az.
The last time I was in Oro Grande was about 1968.

There are actually quite a few pine trees in that area. There used to be more, but the bark beetle has ravaged many of them. I love listening to the wind blow through the pine needles. Still, I can understand how a whole bunch of pine trees would get annoying.
