Driving from Furnace Creek to Stovepipe Wells I had to stop to capture a stunning sunset colored by dust from the Mesquite Dunes and California wildfire smoke. The challenge was pulling this off in a 40-50 MPH hot blasting wind. This all happened so fast that I was not ready with a tripod so I had to lean against a mile marker post for a steadier shot.
I was intrigued by one of the shots capturing a perfectly squared 90-degree pie piece cut out of the backlighted sunset. Mother nature sure is into geometry in the park. BTW - just one of the several reasons I create these videos is to soak up the full cinematic effects on my large flat screen TV with the surround sound turned up a bit. It's almost as good as actually being back in my favorite national park.
First the image and then the video.
