WOW! Great story Wayne!

I wish they had gone into more detail about the suspected Latin on the cross tho. Maybe there will be follow-up stories about it?

Best,

Jim

Hi Jim:
The second link has some excellent closeups of the latin..
The Fisher site also has many photos and sketches of the various jewelry pieces found with the wrecks, almost all crosses and medallions, chalices, etc.
Lots-o-latin there as well.

Regards:Wayne

The medallion tells all.

On the obverse is the Virgin Mary. On the reverse side on either side of the chalice are the letters "S" and "I". They are the initials in Latin (Societus Iesu) Society of Jesus (Jesuits).

What I can't wait for is when they start uncovering the religious wealth. If any of it can be ascribed to the Jesuits, we may see markings that will explain a lot. And then again, maybe not since the Atocha went down in 1622 and most of what we think the Jesuits secretly did started in the 1730s. But then again................who knows? HAHAHA

Best-Mike

Mike,

I am hoping they find a lot more from the wreck, and eventually determine that it is not part of the Atocha, but from a wreck say...
100 years or more later!

Best,

Jim

I think this- for the history-- is way interesting

A 3,300-year-old treasure trove of gold found in northern Germany has stumped German archaeologists. One theory suggests that traders transported it thousands of miles from a mine in Central Asia, but other experts are skeptical.
