roc2rol,
I wish I had a picture of the inlay work I did. We (Roy & I) made a Christmas gift for a very, very dear friend. His father owns the Yogo Gulch sapphire mine in Montana.
We gave him a $20.00 gold piece, and we made a special stand for it to be put up in his office. It was rosewood with ebony inlay, and had two sapphires, one on each corner, with an inscription.
That was my first inlay attempt. I admit, I "broke" more than one small piece of ebony trying to get-er-done! But, after a few attempts, it came out nice. It was like a miniature plate holder stand - only it held a coin rather than a plate (much, much smaller)

Hey Roc2rol, I've been fascinated by those rock hearts you create, real works of art. As you and Mrs. O ( which is also very gifted ) share ideas, it sparked one of mine. If I were to place a special order, it would be a small replica of the Peralta stone heart. Made out of a plain brown rock, polished then etched, and fashioned into a key holder. Homar

What really fine gift!
Wood & stone!
One of my ideas I never got around to, YET!
Was to do a wood inlay mosaic of this
You can guess what stones I would use for the shoes!
This L.P. also as the great song El Dorado on it
it all fits!
