Goverment satellite photo of large gold deposit?
Does anyone remember a number of years back about talk of goverment satellite photo taken of a large gold deposit? Seems the story goes that on a regular flyover this satellite discovered a large gold deposit by accident. I think it was suppose to be in New Mexico or Arizona thats all I can remember of the story. Well other then the fact the goverment clamped a lid on all the information right away.
Thanks

Welcome to DesertUSA Crazydawg !
I sure don't recall ever hearing about this one - can you remember any other details? I do recall that big story of a satellite image of Noah's Ark being shot accidentally but closer examination shows not enough detail to really tell what that was. Thank you in advance,

Welcome Crazydawg,
What you are referring to was not a photograph. It was a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Flyover that was sampling the air.
While it was over the Supers, it detected an abnormally large mercury content. They said it was indicative of either a large gold deposit, or a large smelting operation. That's all that was ever released.

Mercury concentrations in the air is something that is continuously monitored from several locations around Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe (ASU) etc. There is an old joke for explaining when the levels are high... "The Dutchman burped".
