Re: SUPERSTITION WILDERNESS AREA PLACE NAMES & LANDMARKS
There is another story about lost gold in the Superstition Mountain area that died many years ago with a couple of old prospectors. They often talked about a rich vein called Rattlesnake Gold. Now how is that for another story about the old mountain east of Apache Junction. This stuff is real and it is not from the Dutchman's Lost mine. However, who knows where it is from? Just another story I have been told, but many, many years ago.
Thought you might enjoy it. I think Jim knows this story..........?

Hi Jerry,
Sorry, I don't remember that particular story. If I ever did hear it, It probably didn't make much of an impression. I tend to shrug off "Stories" that come from anonymous sources that cannot be verified.
It keeps me from getting hung up in the many "tempting parking spaces along the road to success".
Tom,
re: The gold in the photo... Now that's another story altogether, and one that cannot be shrugged-off. Is it supposed to be from the Superstitions? If so who found it and when? I know better than to ask "WHERE" but since the photo is posted, there should be at least a few words about where it came from, or some of it's known history linking it to the Superstition Mountains, to show some kind of relevance to the topic being discussed.
Best,
Jim

Re: SUPERSTITION WILDERNESS AREA PLACE NAMES & LANDMARKS
The source of the gold is unknown, but an old timer who lived in the area owned the specimen. I suspect it was from Mexico or California. He claimed it was found in a cache with a rattlesnake. That is about all I know about it. I obtained it for my mineral collection. Everyone who has a piece of gold always has a good story to go with it. I have thought about making jewelry out of it many times because of the quality of the gold and quartz. I thought, I might get five or six cabs out of it. The cabs would make a beautiful bola tie. The end of the story!
