This captive bred rattlesnake comes from the Page, AZ. area and is known as the pink rattlesnake species of the region (including the Grand Canyon). This is a juvenile and will change color as an adult. It was given to me from a local rattlesnake expert...

Nice markings. Any idea what the color change will be to?

Whoa! I'm sure glad we don't have pink rattlesnakes here in Texas! Homar

Yep! Texas cowgirls would really have to look twice.

Terry:
That is a beautiful specimen even if he is a juvenile. When I had the Snake Alert program I keep several different species. I usually had one Mohave, one Diamond back, one Tiger, and one Sidewinder. Our cages were fiberglass and thick clear plastic. Of course cage security was a must at all times in the public. Thanks for sharing the photos of the that unique species.

That snake of yours looks an awful lot like the one I encountered last fall in Arches. I thought it to be a midget faded rattlesnake since that's the only rattler in this area. What do you think rep?

Re: Grand Canyon Rattlesnake
Well Rick,
The Grand Canyon Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus abyssus), the Midget Faded Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus concolor), and the Great Basin Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus lutosus), are all subspecies of the "Western Rattlesnake" clade... perhaps their young look similar to each other, I don't know.....
The abyssus and the concolor range maps overlap a little bit, though I am not sure if Arches occurs within that overlapping of ranges. But judging by the look of it, I think the one you have pictured is an abyssus....
But I could be wrong.
