Im pretty sure the driver was sober Brew. Alcohol is known for things gettin somewhat slower. Thats just my opinion.

From what I understand no race driver was drinking. However, according to some reports, some people viewing the race did drink.I did find this article.

It's almost impossible to keep people away from the vehicle travel lane on a desert race like this. It's different than with a circular race track.
