The Pupfish
The rare Desert Pupfish has a unique ability to survive in water
from near-freezing temperatures to almost 108 degrees Farenheit, and in salinity
from almost no salt to twice that of sea water. Growing to only about two and
a half inches in length, they are only found in the Anza Borrego Desert State
Park and nearby Salton Sea.
Salvation Mountain
Salvation Mountain is located in a remote area near Niland, CA, between the Salton Sea and the Chocolate Mountains, in a place called Slab City. Some might call Salvation Mountain a work of art, while others may call it a work of faith, but to Leonard it was his life's work and purpose, built to spread the word of Jesus. And he has, by building a mountain that delivers those words through a colorful display of bible verses woven into ribbons of paint that form waterfalls, lakes and flowers.

of organic matter and dissipates in the form of waste heat. The desert food chain
features unique forms of plants and animals capable of surviving conditions of
high heat and very little water.
