Under Desert Skies is from the #1 bestselling "Musical Visions of the Southwest" Series he started in 1990. With Under Desert Skies John Huling uses a variety of exotic Native American flutes, drums and other instruments to melodically and beautifully portray the "true spirit" of the Desert Southwest Spiritlands. John Huling 's Music is almost like being there.

The ancient voices of nature such as desert birds, coyotes, whispering winds and thunder provide a relaxing backdrop to John Huling 's inspired musical odyssey. Recorded amongst the ancient canyons, mesas and ruins of the Desert Southwest, John Huling 's "Under Desert Skies" guides you on a musical journey through the Southwest that you will want to take again and again.

The Living Desert

Welcome to the Living Desert. Come along on a 3-dimensional musical journey as we explore the great National Parks and Monuments of the Southwest. The gentle caress of a warm desert wind as it blows across Death Valley . . . a lonely howl of the coyote as it echoes across the ridge . . . a tranquil morning beside a cool oasis in Joshua Tree . . . a canopy of stars sparkle above Organ Pipe Cactus. We've spend hudreds of hours recording throughout the Sonoran desert region to capture the natural soundscape that is unique to this amazing wilderness. By weaving these, and many other natural sounds together with music inspiried our journey, we have crated a "Symphony with Nature."

1. Desert Wind. 2. Tanque Verde, 3. Rio Bravo 4. Sonora 5.
Bajada 6. Oasis 7. Walk in Beauty 8. Coyote Dance 9. Buenas Noches

Rare Tribal Mob (Taos Pueblo)

ROBERT MIRABAL - MUSIC FROM A PAINTED CAVE reflects Mirabal's unique position as a man of two cultures. As a native of the American Southwest - the Taos high desert has been the home of his people for more than 1,000 years - he performs and speaks from the rarely heard Native American perspective. In non-performance segments throughout the program, Mirabal relates some of the history of the Native-American people and tells the story of their life today.

It includes all of the concert footage from the PBS show, all of the 10
minutes of bonus footage released on the VHS version, PLUS an additional twenty minute feature about the band, their work and their lives, entitled "Warrior's Weekend." This extra feature is availible only on the DVD release and features interviews with Robert and the band members and dancers, behind the scenes rehearsal and backstage footage, and revealing glimpses into who they are and how they make music and dance together. Another big bonus feature is that the entire concert has been remixed in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound for an incredible audio experience!

MUSIC FROM A PAINTED CAVE also includes appearances by world champion Native-American dancers, who perform both traditional dances and contemporary variations, directed by renowned choreographer Boye Ladd.
