Follow the Wildflower Reports for the latest updates in this 2012 season - a very dry one.
Death Valley National Park opened the doors to a remodeled Visitor Center on Thursday, February 16th, 2012. The original Visitor Center was built in 1960 as part of the Mission 66 project — a 10 year effort to upgrade National Park Service facilities by the agency's 50th anniversary in 1966. The Death Valley remodel, scheduled to take eighteen months, was actually completed months ahead of schedule.

Mitchell Caverns
Mitchell Caverns has been closed for repairs from January 2011 to the present, and there have been no tours of the Mitchell Caverns or the Providence Mountains SRA during this time. The park may not re-open due to state budget problems - it is on the list of parks to be closed. You can take a look at Mitchell Caverns in this video!
