March 13, 2013 Sabrina Reports: South Mountain by Kiwanias Trail 3/12/13

March 12, 2013 Gottfrieds Reports: Lots of Poppies and Lupines on the Kelvin- Florence Hwy, near Kelvin, Az.

Also many Poppies along the Hwy.177 near Superior

March 12, 2013 Rich reports: These photos were taken on March 9th, at Pass Mountain in Usery Mountain Park. They are, respectively, duste, and desert chicory.

This Desert chicory was photographed on 3/09/13, at Pass Mountain. These
flowers were fairly common on the trail that day.
March 12, 2013 Fred reports: Cave Creek Park - On the southeastern area of the Go John Trail, sparse poppies are showing up. Not great for those wide field of flowers shots, but a good time to get down on the ground for close-ups.

March 11, 2013 Lake Pleasant Regional Park reports: With the cooler temperatures and ample rainfall this year, we are in for a good flowering season, so get out and take a look! We are starting to see wildflowers here at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. For the groundcover, we are seeing the little white popcorn flowers pop up, and a good number of purple/pink filaree blossoms. For taller wildflowers, the yellow fiddleneck is just starting to show blossoms, although not yet having its characteristic fiddleneck look. A large number of long stem desert hyacinths are getting ready to bloom with several already making a purple splash throughout the park. The Mexican gold poppy is just starting to show, but not in abundant numbers.
March 11, 2013 Boyce Thompson Arboretum reports: Color's getting stronger by the day! New flowers to seek this week include a bright patch of blue phacelia at the east end of the main trail, below Picketpost Mansion and the first few yellow wallflowers and desert anemones on the High Trail. This should also be peak week for rhyolite bush (ragged rock flower). Wild cucumber remains the most interesting and showy of our spring flowers with "Jack & The Beanstalk" vines that have climbed their way as high as 8-feet through native jojoba, mesquite and other trees in locations throughout the grounds. Watch for clusters of tiny, off-white, starfish-shaped flowers on these thriving green vines.
March 8, 2013 Robin reports: Dune Evening Primrose in full bloom N of Lake Havasu City in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge.

March 7, 2013 Joe reports: Photos taken Sunday, March 3, in the Piestewa Peak Park. The images were taken on the eastern side of the park. The easiest way to describe the location is from the Piestewa Peak summit. Just look to the east and look for the hillsides stained in gold poppies. On the hike there, you'll see other wildflowers like desert lupine, popcorn flower, fiddleneck, wild hyacinth, lots of phacelia, and some I can't name.

March 6, 2013 Sam reports: Went to Bartlett Lake near Phoenix and the flowers are starting to bloom.

March 6, 2013 Tom reports: Superstition Mountains area - Firecracker Penstemon......The bloom is slowly beginning. If it rains good Friday we will see a fantastic desert bloom this year. Hopefully?

March 5, 2013 Boyce Thompson Arboretum reports: Currently blooming: fetid marigold, wild cucumber, wild rhubarb, London rocket and henbit. One of the Arboretum's most interesting and endemic early-blooming native shrubs is rhyolite bush Crossosoma bigelovii. They can be found trailside above Ayer Lake, along the "switchbacks" below Picketpost Mansion, and in the Queen Creek riparian corridor.
March 4, 2013 Usery Mountain Regional Park reports: Wildflowers and shrubs currently blooming in the park: Brittlebush, chuparosa, combseed, desert marigold, fairy duster, fiddleneck, filaree, flat-top buckwheat, jojoba, Mexican gold poppy, popcorn flower, trixis, wild hyacinth (bluedicks), and wolfberry.
March 4, 2013 WB reports: These photos were taken 3/2/2013 in Arizona at Bartlett Lake just north of Rattlesnake Cove on the steep slopes west of the road. This was the only area with wildflowers. Other areas at Bartlett that usually have blooms were completely devoid of wildflowers.

March 4, 2013 Kay reports: Lots of poppys, heliotrope & some lupine on Rainbow Valley trail in Estrella Mt Park photo March 2, 2013.

March 4, 2013 AJ reports: I took this photo today March 3 at Willow Beach, AZ. The temperature there is routinely 10 degrees warmer than in nearby Las Vegas, perhaps causing a bloom there sooner than the rest of the region. This picnic area is overlooking the Colorado River below Hoover Dam.

March 1, 2013 Penny reports: Went for our first hike in San Tan Mountains down Dynamite Trail and were lucky enough to spot wildflowers a short distance down the trail (north end starting from Goldmine Trailhead parking lot). I'm from Canada and still trying to familiarize myself with the varieties but I know there were Mexican Poppies and Lupines.

Feb 28, 2013 Boyce Thomspon Arboretum State Park reports: Wildflower tour guide Cass Blodgett reports scattered flowers are blooming throughout the park including fetid marigold, wild rhubarb, London rocket and henbit. Three ambitious little goldpoppies were found along the main trail; Cass added that showy plants such as delphinium and globemallow appear robust and within three weeks of blooming strong.
Feb 28, 2013 Lost Dutchman State Park reports: it is still very early in the season.
A few wildflowers in bloom.
Feb 27, 2013 Bob reports: I took a drive up to Bartlett Lake and was surprised that there were no signs of poppies yet. It also seemed very dry and very few shoots and or stalks in the area. Afterward I drove out through Fountain Hills and spotted a few poppy patches between the Beeline Highway/87 and Saguaro Lake. Usery Mountain also showed a few blooms near the entrance to the park.

Feb 21, 2013 Tom reports: Lots of snow up in Siphon Draw today and it was cold. I would guess around 38-40 degree F. We should see some beautiful wildflower displays this year. One rain like this one will do it proper.

Photos tips: Most digital point-and-shoot cameras have a macro function - usually symbolized by the icon of a little flower. When you turn on that function, you allow your camera to get closer to the subject, looking into a flower for example. Or getting up close and personal with a bug.
