Flood damage

9/15/2011 Joshua Tree National Park Yesterday’s storm brought good news and bad news. Desert tortoise were happy to find pools of water on park roads that they can drink. (They have the right-of-way so stop and give them space.) And, honeybees were delighted with the cooler temperatures and moisture for their hives. (They can take a break from trying to score visitor’s sweat!) Alas, the nearly 3 inches of rain washed out Pinto Basin Road, closing the road, Cottonwood VC and Cottonwood Campground.
