Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are closed. It is unlawful to enter National Park lands to recreate or sightsee until further notice.
Alternatives for Moab Utah visitors during the National Park and Monument Shut Down:
- Fisher Towers Recreation area is open.
- Dead Horse Point is a State Park. It is open. It is on Hwy 313. Hwy 313 is a Scenic ByWay.
- Sandflats Recreation Area is operated by Grand County. It is open.
- Negro Bill Canyon is a 5 miles round trip hike to see Morning Glory bridge/arch. The trailhead is 3 miles from Hwy 191 along Hwy 128.
- Hwy 128 is a Scenic ByWay.
- Corona Arch is a 3 mile round trip hike. The trailhead is 10 miles from Hwy 191 along Hwy 279. watch for pothole arches in the rim too.
- Hwy 279 is a Scenic ByWay.
Where to go to see arches that require no hiking.
Wilson Arch is 26 miles south of Moab on Hwy 191. Google Map Directions
Looking Glass Arch is 23 miles south of Moab on Hwy 191. The turn off will be marked by a large brown sign. There is .4 miles of dirt road that is two-wheel drive to see Looking Glass Arch. Google Map Directions
Jug Handle Arch is along Hwy 279 13.5 miles from Hwy 191. It is at the turn off to the Long Canyon dirt road.
The Moab information Center has free pamphlets for self – guided Rock Art Tour, Dinosaur track viewing, hiking trails outside of park lands, movie location tour, etc.

The Bureau of Land Management bike trails are open.
The Bureau of Land Management 4×4 trails are open.
The Bureau of Land Management campgrounds are open.
There will be no maitenance of facilities. Toilet paper will not be restocked for trail head toilets or campground toilets. The public is advised to carry toilet paper.
Trash will not be removed. Please participate in trash removal, pack it in and pack it out.
It has always been prohibited to gather firewood. Bring firewood. Please removed ashes from a cold fire left before you, if it comes to that.
