Re: What You Need to Know in the Desert

My experience includes 5 years working as a USFS firefighter and 20 years as a critical care RN. I agree that the #1 most important thing in the wildlands is h20 intake. You have to drink for your brain to think! Thanks for sharing this vital information.Being kind to your feet is also an excellent ...

Fire on the mountain

A brushfire broke out recently near my home in an area frequented by our recreating public. This is just a little reminder that anyone found responsible for a fire thats gotten out of hand and is liable for all costs of supression. There's a old bear that sez its up to us to prevent forest fires. Th...

Re: Four-wheel off-road racing returns to Imperial Valley CA

I didn't make the tour but we did do some trails between the Johnson Valley OHV area and the Rodman mountains. One canyon was a corridor through a rugged wilderness area. It was wild, remote and a stopover for a migrating Golden eagles. These birds are always a treat to watch. We contemplated the po...

Re: found some fire opal this summer

I was lucky enough to pick up some Mexican fire opal at a pow wow in the spring of 2010 just b4 my accident. Amazing stuff! I keep the container about 1/3 filled with mountain spring water. Stops the fracturing and illuminates the shimmerin colour.

Re: Four-wheel off-road racing returns to Imperial Valley CA

I like hearin about folks enjoying the desert. What better place to enjoy riding than the open OHV areas. It's up to those who care to be good stewards of the public lands that belong to us all. Not everyone gets it perfect but....it's up to the rest of us to be good examples. There's a good reason ...

Re: Water in the desert

Yep, thats the way you drill em. I too am blessed with water from deep in the earth. The top well is pumped from 300' via solar. It too comes from the rock on the top part of my acreage. Gravity flows. The lower well is down 160' with the water at 86'. It pumps via 110/220. That one pumps @ 18gpm. N...

Re: Water in the desert

Water is the most important thing and is essential to all of us desert travelers. I am fortunate indeed to have an abundant supply on my land. Progress in the field of solar generation have allowed my drip systems to irrigate Willow Fire rehabilitation projects day and night. Its simple. I just stor...

Critters looking healthy lately

After the rains of December came the warmth of January in the lower deserts of California. I've been seeing a lot of rabbits and healthy looking coyotes with their winter coats. How are things looking aroud everyone elses neighborhood?

Another interesting area where many fossils have been found has some dang good fishin too! Diamond Valley, Lake Perris, and Skinner.Somewhere east of highway 395. Well....that covers a little territory. Just keep on going south and east, it gets better and better. The excavations for the dams uncove...

Re: Enviromentalist vs Offroaders......

Your right historik, 951 is the area where my winter home is. Later today, I will be heading into the 760 zone of the northern san bernardino mountain/high desert transition zone where I own a few acres and a cabin. It's that area which is a mix of USFS/BLM is where the problems affecting neighborin...
