Re: Storm reports anyone?

We got dumped upon Tuesday...about an inch of rain in a few hours. Lost power twice. We had minor highway flooding here but nothing like the Glendale/Moapa, NV area about 30 miles south of us. Interstate 15 was washed out there and motorists had to use a 60-mile detour to get back on the freeway. ND...

Storm reports anyone?

It looks like a pretty good chunk of desert is going to get thunderstorm activity through Tuesday due to moisture streaming northward from Hurricane Norbert. Some of the rainfall amounts might be on the heavy side. It would be interesting to compare storm reports from various locations. Photos would...

Re: Interesting highways

Interesting information, although I was overwhelmed by the scientific terms. The geology of eastern California is unlike anywhere else.

Re: Interesting highways

I Googled Deep Springs College after I logged out. It's a cowboy campus with a unique philosophy several mountain ranges away from the nearest towns. Pretty impressive for a campus tucked in among alfalfa fields.

Re: Interesting highways

I know nothing about Deep Springs College. I hadn't ever heard of it before. I couldn't believe a college would be located in such a remote spot.

Re: Desert Shrub fluourescent green "flowers"

In which part of the desert did you discover these shrubs? That might help narrow the search.

Re: I'm back

Great to hear from you, my friend. Heck, just call me Bob. The family's fine; the kids are leaving the nest now. My eldest son and daughter live in Reno and my second daughter will graduate from high school next June and also head to Reno. My youngest daughter is a high school sophomore and my young...

Interesting highways

When my family and I were returning to our Southern Nevada home from Northern Nevada, we decided to take roads we hadn't used before. I wanted to go through Death Valley, but was outvoted by the rest of the family who believed driving though Death Valley in August wasn't a good idea. Besides, my wif...

I'm back

I'm back in Desert USA forums again after disappearing for seven years. I took a job on the local newspaper and never had time for anything else until I resigned at the beginning of May last year. I used to post forums under Bob C, and I see that my good buddies Rep, Space Cowboy and Custis are stil...
