Barry Storm's Desert Magazine Article December 1983

For those of you wanting to see the actual article, Mountain Treasure, that Barry Storm wrote and was printed in Desert Magazine in December, 1983, the below web site has a scanned version of it. To my knowledge, this site has all of the issues of Desert Magazine on it way back into the 1940's. If y...

Re: THE HOLMES MANUSCRIPT

There are actually 4 versions of the Holmes Manuscript. Greg Davis has them in his collection and they are labeled A, B, C, and D versions. I believe the storyline is that Brownie worked with a 3rd party writer at first who did a much glamorized version of what Brownie told him. Brownie went through...

Re: 5th annual Dutch Hunters Rendezvous 2009

Jim,

You made a VERY generous donation of the the Stone Maps to the Rendezvous for a drawing!!! We may get a larger crowd from that alone. Thanks for support!

Julia Thomas Map to the LDM

Robert Blair wrote the book, "Tales of the Superstitions", in 1975 and he was one of the earlier researchers of the LDM to take a very disciplined approach to examining it and the existing evidence he could find at the time. I do think his conclusions were not correct - i.e., there was no ...

Re: THE "GERMAN" CLUES

Made an error in the first night stop of Waltz's path as followed by Holmes. Corrected version is: 1. 1st Night - Waltz camped on the Verde River about two miles north of the Granite Reef diversion which would be south of Fort McDowell which was on the Verde and north of the Salt River. Sorry about ...

Re: THE "GERMAN" CLUES

JIm, The first six of the "German Clues" match exactly the path that Waltz took when Dick Holmes trailed him out of Phoenix according to the Holmes Manuscript (1944) which gave the trail as follows from Phoenix: 1. 1st Night - Waltz camped on the Verde River about two miles north of the Gr...

Identified Sources

Jim, A couple of points: 1. I am not at liberty to name any sources at this time - such is the nature of LDM research as one must respect the wishes of others. Again, that is the only source info I have on any of Thomas's work other than what is in the book. 2. I am 100% with you that the Holmes tal...

Thomas Glover's Sources

Jim.

As I indicated in my first posting on Glover's input on Ely's book, I was only commenting on the paragraph I quoted as to Glover's sources. Can't vouch for the rest of the book.

The Bark Notes

Joe, The one thing that does bother me is the last sentence in Thomas Glover's quote above: "Neither "The Notes" or Sims' book were to compromise the Spangler and Ely families' continuing search for the mine." Does this mean that "The Notes" in public circulation today ...

LDM Lore - What to Believe and What to Throw

Jim, Interesting perspective you have on LDM research in using Sims Ely as your touchstone. I guess my views on Ely's "The Lost Dutchman Mine" are summarized well by Thomas Glover in his book, "The Lost Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz, Part 1: The Golden Dream". On Pages 28/29 Thoma...
