I honestly think posts wander just like our thoughts wander. It is by assoiation we respond to what we preceve we read. Sometimes it is one up-manship. Sometimes it is to get a responce, good or ill. Lets face it, we as humans tend to ramble.

Re: What are your thoughts?
Being part native american and a history buff, the govt of this country chose to do major harm to the native peoples. From Andy Jackson (Trail of Tears), to Grant (the only good indian is a dead indian). The Hawes act was offical "The land granted to most allottees was not sufficient for econom...

Re: Land Uses? Recreational Gold Prospecting
In the original wilderness bill human powered stuff was, and i may be mistaken, allowed. that was changed in 1974 so all mechinized equipment is forbidden. This includes wheelborrows, wagons, bicycles, carts and the like. A ranger may decide that a human powered puffer dry washer is mechinized and h...

Re: Land Uses? Recreational Gold Prospecting
Rockhounding, gem collecting and yes, even gold hunting can be done on BLM lands, INCLUDING wilderness. The only thing is you CAN NOT use any mechinized gear, in wilderness areas. (editid to show difference). That means no dredging, no dry washers, even foot powered and no wheelborrows, in designate...

Re: Mine Safety
Unless you know what you are doing, it is best not to enter any old mine. Having ssaid that, I have been in and out of old mines and caves sence 1958. In those years I have experienced several cave ins, seen rotten timber, flooded shafts and been in bad air. My rule is if the mine has water in it, s...

Re: California park closures
I wonder what will happen if indeed the parks do get closed. Will you get arested for trepassing on public land? If large parks like ABDSP get closed, whos going to patrol them? And how will the area be closed? Fenced, gates? Those cost money. I also find it interesting that the state is closing old...

Re: More closed areas.
As we argue, more and more public lands are being "preserved" for some unnamed future generation, one that can presume, will only be allowed to "view" wild lands from their tv. Right now another 25 million acres of land is in a new wilderness bill. Plus an undetermined ammount of...

Re: Environmental issue
For the most part all is well, thank you Sandman. We lost our Husky a month ago from a combination of a torn cartledge in both his back knees and several tumors (cancer). He was my wifes constant compaion for almost 11 years and when we went to the vet, we thought we were only going to get pain meds...

Re: Environmental issue
I live in a "city" of 50. I visit the desert ohh a lot Ilive inside a national forest. I have over 8,000 miles riding a quad and a lifetime of seeing our public lands become locekd up to be the exclusive land of the hiker. I also notice that pitd did not mention a word about the wilderness...
