Re: 25 G's for an 8 footer

Do you mean Peach Springs, Arizona? I don't believe there are any WDB's in Washington. Yes, Peach Springs Wash, a few miles north of Peach Springs, AZ. There is a road that one can drive (after purchasing a permit form the Hualapai Tribe) from Peach Springs, all the way to the Colorado River in Gra...

Sounds neat alright! Amazon has copies used from 1 cent! (still cost ya 4 bucks for shipping, I guess) Attached is the review from Amazon Amazon.com Review Snakes occupy a peculiar position in the human psyche; in different cultures they have been associated with everything from birth to death, wit...

"The Snakebite Survivors Club"

Got this book for Christmas. Just finished it, 312 pages in 2 days. I really enjoyed this book. The author focuses on rattlesnakes, cobras, mambas and taipans, and includes an interview with survivors of a bite from each.

Interesting read. Author is Jeremy Seal.

Re: 25 G's for an 8 footer

Jerry, I have seen a WDB of at least 5' in length, in upper Peach Springs Wash. It crawled up a cut bank that was at least 3 feet high, and there was snake on the bottom and snake on the top while he (she) was going up. We saw it from many yards away crossing the road, and it threw a shadow! I thoug...

He looks a lot like Ed Quillen, who writes a column for the Denver Post!

Re: Winter Hiking

"instep crampons" simple and cheap (and safe!) are now commonly used. (most hikers don't have the old fashioned full-blown vibram soles anymore) You can pick these up several places in Flagstaff, or at the south rim. They will be very useful for the first 1000 feet of vertical descent on t...

Re: I'm considering myself a lucky SOB

TradClimber, while I sympathize with the notion of assisting this snake, the overriding principle at work here is the ideology of the National Park itself. That is, places in America where nature is allowed to run it's own course. The skull and bones I went in there to examine probably belonged to ...
