Ryan - in the photo of the cactus described as the box cut into it with V's surrounding the cactus, the V's don't look like they were deeply cut/carved into the cactus like most people assume "signs" to be. For lack of a better description does it look like those are all scar marks from very light cuts into the cactus that just healed quickly and left a light discoloration?

Thanks for the response - the description "tatoo" is a good one since the skin doesn't seem to be broken anywhere.

And barely 100 years old IMO. The great Jesuit roundup in the southwest was 250 years ago.
Any Saguaro transplanted by pre-expulsion Jesuits would have to have been ready to put markings on by then.

There's plenty like that one out there in the mountains.
With various natural wounds, wren holes and now and then, man made markings as well.....including bullet holes.
Also...keep in mind the fact that those markings would have had to have been made when the ones in question were already 50 plus years old.
