Welcome aboard the DUSA Moderator team TC!
(20 year veteran and lead climber, as well as past president for Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit)

We should have done this a long time ago.
Better late than never!

Between your experience in the field, and GeorgeW's Professional Medical background... I think we have everything pretty well covered, in the way of being able to answer ANY question in this forum!

Thanks Jim for your kind introduction.

Thanks Cub.

I'll try to be informative and interject some humor at times.

Ed,

I agree with you. He has the look of a man who has seen the elephant and heard he owl. A real "Been there and done that" kind of a guy!

TC,

In all of your years of experience... Have you ever heard a story like the Jesse Capen case, where he got his entire camp packed in, two miles from where he parked, (obviously the result of more than just one trip) and then just disappeared without a trace, before ever even lighting his camp stove the first time, or using any of his supplies?

Best,

Jim

No, I haven't. But that doesn't mean much.

From shortly after the beginning, based upon the information I've read in this forum, I discounted:

1.) Foul play.
2.) Intentional disappearance.

What does that leave us with?

I have only two thoughts to offer:

1.) Bear or mountain lion – possible - but not at all likely.
2.) Two posts of my some time ago.

He’s probably under the sand from the flash flooding that was happening at the time and not far from where he went missing. Most likely hung up between two boulders by the wrist, ankle or head and is under the sand.

We're dealing with a person missing from an area that was known to be flash flooding at the time.
Best bet of finding him now would be to use trained cadaver dogs in the bottom of the drainages, starting with the ones closest to his camp. Metal detectors might be of some use if he was wearing a belt. Also, when searching, look up in the sky for buzzards.

I wish I had more to offer.
