Man Lost in Anza Borrego Badlands mud caves

Post by Jim_b »

24‐year‐old Guillermo Pino has been missing since Sunday, April 8th in the Anza Borrego Badlands. He went missing around noon while out exploring the caves with his family in an area called Arroyo Tapiado, two miles from the mouth of the wash. He is described as a fairly experienced hiker with no known medical conditions. Mr. Pino has dark hair, is 6 feet tall, and weighs 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans and a red shirt. He had no shoes, food, water, flashlight or a cell phone.

Still missing, they may have hear a tapping noise coming from one the caves, but nothing found so far. He has now been missing for 8 days and had no water with him.

Family is asking for your prayers.

The search by authorities has been suspended. The family is still looking.

Without shoes, it seems like it would be REALLY HARD to have gotten much further than where the family was when he disappeared.

No matter what, I sure hope they find him for the family's sake! It sound like a challenging area to wander around in.

I've read that his shirt had been found and that search dogs have only picked up his scent near one of the caves. I wonder if there is still any hope.
PS This is a really awful thing for his family. Please people lets not squabble here.

Re: Man Lost in Anza Borrego Badlands mud caves found dead

A body may have been discovered in an area of canyons, crevices and caves in East County where a UCSD psychology student disappeared nearly a month ago, sheriff's deputies said Sunday.

Pino's brother-in-law found the remains of the UC San Diego psychology major by lowering a video camera, loaned to the family by a private investigator, into one of the crevasses that run through dried-mud slopes and precipices in the desolate area.

Due to a high danger of cave-ins, it took mine-rescue experts several days to safely remove the body from the roughly 60-foot-deep hole, according to sheriff's officials.

An autopsy determined that Pino succumbed to asphyxiation due to the position he wound up in at the bottom of the fissure, according to the medical examiner. The time of his death was unclear.
