Human remains found near where Colorado man vanish

Post by roc2rol »

APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZ. — Human remains have been found in a mountain area east of Phoenix near where a Colorado man disappeared in 2009.

Maricopa County sheriff's spokesman Brandon Jones said hikers found remains Saturday in a rugged area about 60 miles east of Phoenix in the Superstition Mountains.

Sheriff's search teams were working to recover the remains Sunday, and they'll be sent to the county medical examiner for identification.

Robert Cooper of the private Superstition Search and Rescue group said his members made the discovery.

Cooper told The Arizona Republic the area is a half-mile from where 35-year-old Denver resident Jesse Capen's Jeep and other belongings were discovered in December 2009.

A half a mile from his jeep? I followed this search in real time. This goes to show you just how rugged that area is, and how fast (and close) trouble can descend upon the ill prepared.

I'm pretty sceptical that the remains will be I.D as of Jesse
because of the massive search that was under way
at the time
and because the remains were found so close to Jesse disappaerance.

Whoever it is-- needs to be identified
and it would be nice if Jesse got a proper burial/

Roc

hopefully in another week or so
the coroner will have definitive information

Arizona officials confirmed Wednesday -1/23/13- that skeletal remains of a man found beneath a sheer cliff in the Superstition Mountains were that of a Denver adventurer who died seeking the fabled Lost Dutchman gold mine.
