Yes. It was confirmed that the letter sent to the editors of Desert Mag was a hoax. Dwindling magazine sales caused them to make up the story.

I was also the one to post the picture where you can see the spray paint on the wrist.

The PegLeg Black Gold Nugget Story is NOT a hoax as several examples of correct black gold nuggets have been found in the Anza-Borrego Area.

I an currently researching the Peg Leg Lost Mine. I think the hay stack for the location of the gold is above (north of) the circle map published in Desert Magazine, November, 1946. In addition, it possible it may have been worked in the early 1900's. But, who knows? I could be wrong! Sincerely, CRAZY OLD MAN
