Rock and more rocks

Post by Jim_b »

Next week is the start of the Quartzsite shows, 2,000 vendors of rocks, gems, minerals, fossils and everything else imaginable create one of the world's largest open air flea markets in Quartzsite. Eight major gem and mineral shows as well as vendors of raw and handcrafted merchandise peddle their wares to snowbirds, collectors and enthusiasts, making Quartzsite the place to be the first two months of each year.

Next month ( FEB 2011) the action moves to Tucson, Az for the big gem show. Every February, mobs of rockhounders, gem dealers, paleontologists, Native Americans, geologists and just plain curious converge on Tucson, Arizona for the annual Gem & Mineral Show.

I’d like to add that the 2011 Flagg Gem and Mineral Show
is this weekend at Mesa Community College.
It has an interesting history.
The first show was on Sunday, Juanuary 18, 1970.
The show was called the Superstition Mountain Mineral Festival,
and was held at the Don's Base Camp on Peralta Road.

Get out this season & support your local rock hounds!

Thanks !
Ed

This a quote from the owner
The ore is called "Bonanza Ore". Very similar to high grade Comstock ore. It is from a mine near Winnemucca (probably spelled wrong) in Nevada. You can see the silver veins and there is gold and other goodies also. That piece is estimated to be worth $1000. Too pretty to crush and process in my opinion.

Thanks for looking
and Enjoy
