Another Colorful Quartz Crystal?

Post by passnthru »

Hello all,

While searching for info I came across 'Amazing Quartz Crystal' posted by roc2rol. Yeah that's amazing.
So, I had a chance recently to see what I think is a unique Quartz Crystal.
There is a "rectangle" of color inside this crystal. The crystal itself is 1 1/4" X 1" X 3/4".

Surely the pictures are worth far more than I can say.

I figure the fine people here would know more than me.

So, take a look and let me know if this is common or not so common.

Thanks

Are you trying to say that you found that crystal here in Arizona?

Howdy

This crystal came out of an estate. I do not know its history.
It just seems to me that 90 degree angles are not found in nature.
I do not see how someone could have done this as trick, or why.
I hope someone here can shed some light on the what and or why of the little rainbow in the crystal.

Thanks

Welcome to DesertUSA !

That is amazing all right

Lots of questions
Do you think the crystal is quartz ?
Or is it maybe... of a calcite variety?
How hard is it?
Can you scratch it with you fingernail?
Quartz hard. Calcite soft.

I never seen that sort of geometric flash
Its one of kind, indeed
although I'm far from any kind of crystal expert

keep us posted :)

Thanks roc2rol

Questions ... yeah ...

I'm no rock hound just another admirer.
Quartz? As best as I can tell. It is hard.

The wide side of the pattern looks like it may go out to the edge of the flat side of the crystal like it was part of something bigger before it was cut or ... ?
But there is no hole or slit visible.

If its a trick you gotta admire the trickster.
Perhaps a crystal working pro will come along and let us know more.

I do not know of any lapidary workers around here. But on my next trip to Houston I may find one.

Not sure where your located passnthru ?
but if your in Arizona
all the rock shows
(with various experts) are about
I would suggest Tucson
beginning of February is the big show

but any time
they have humongous crystal shop down there
I'm going and will look for similar

Its probably not a trick
I thought that with my movable ball
One thing I have learned
is that crystals are famous for trapped fluids

hopefully a few others will comment

or you could try some other internet sources
let me know if your interested in that
wil2521@yahoo

thanks for posting and don't pass thru to quick
I gotta comment my brother was a drummer
in bar band by that name
so its really cool

Hey roc2rol

I'm 100 miles from Houston.

I've heard about the February Tucson Show, no way I'll make it though. Perhaps one year I will make it.

With a little luck a crystal guru will come along, if not I'll get back with you to compare notes.

Yeah that's cool - we're all pass in thru - the newest kids on this old rock hurling through the cosmos.

You know, it would be nice to get a HD video of that 'movable ball' inside your crystal.
