DIY gear and stuff

Post by yuccahead »

What do you make for your desert trips? Gear or stuff for hiking, wheelin", prospecting, snake hunting, etc?

I make these knives, called a crooked knife, a one-handed draw knife, great for whittlin' and carving. They originated in the north east for making birchbark canoes. The blade is ground from a 6" file and the canoe shaped handle is maple.

I also make my own canoe paddles-

and a cheap and easy insulated water bottle carrier made with a cheap sleeping pad, a strap and duct tape, using a sports drink bottle.

So, anybody else got some homemade stuff?

Cool work. Did you make the duct tape yourself too? :)

Yuccahead,
Could you please look at my post on the Colorado River Information forum?
I couldn't find a way to message you privately.
Thanks,
