Infrared night photos

Post by Jim_b »

We have a new video and still camera that we are testing for DesertUSA. We are trying to capture the creatures of the night and what they do while we sleep. The camera has a motion detector that turns on the IR lights and starts the video or still camera. It takes color in the daylight, and B&W at night. We will be posting some of the results here.

Coyote eating some figs that are on the ground under a fig tree.

Jim, thanks for the info.

In the past several years I have used a couple of trail cams. They are very useful in learning the habits of a creature. In my case, when and where to be to get good photos of the Peninsular Bighorns.

I have use both flash and infrared with the cams, and in my experience, it doesn't seem to matter to the creature.

My old cam, died from the desert heat after two years, was a Moultrie. I'm currently using a Bushnell Trail Sentry.

I leave them out for six months at a time. I replace the batteries every 30 days and switch out the data chip.
