This forum is for those who are interested in exploring for gold, lost treasures and rocks. We have many articles on DesertUSA about these subjects and many comments made by our readers. These comments have far exceeded our expectations and as a result we have decided to place them in a more user friendly format. We will organize the past comments by subject and date over time and add them to this format. We invite you to contribute!

Here is link to our main index on Rockhounding - Treasure Hunting - Gold Prospecting and the area we will be covering in this forum. http://www.desertusa.com/Thingstodo/du_ ... asure.html

Great Idea Jim, it should be interesting to read some of the stories and hopefully see some Photos of peoples discoveries and the areas they've explored.

This will be a great forum. Its the main reason I came here to begin with, although, to get to these places, the desert needs to remain open. Sad, but true, that the fact is we are in a big fight now. There is a place I want to go this fall, that may be locked down to vechicles. So now what, a horse? The thing is, to get there whatever it takes.

Now, if someone has a tip on a good gold deposit, you dont really think they will post it here for the world to see, do you?

But we can exchange tips and ideas on equiptment, survival and etc. A great forum. Thanks to Jim. :) :) :)

Goldseeker........for a peak at a good gold deposit, take a hike up to the Keynot mine up in the Inyo Mountains. Dont wait until fall, you may get snowed on! Also of note in the area is tha old mining camp of Beveredge. Tough country for sure but worth the effort.

Sandman, did I ever tell you about my friend who owns a rock shop in Austin? He's got a mine nearby where he mines turquoise and fluorite among other gems. He sells a ton of this stuff to tourists. It's a very beautiful rock, I have several very nice specimens.

Working at a gold mine as I do you'd think I'd see a lot of it. The fact is, I've never even seen a speck of it as the gold we mine is microscopic. Last Friday night I was in my dozer on top of a high grade ore stockpile pushing it around and flattening it out on top so we could stockpile more of it. I got to thinking later that I was sitting on literally millions of dollars worth of gold. And here I am working hard to keep my family on an even keel and pay the bills. It boggles the mind.

And now you see why people go look for the stuff, esp the rich deposits. You are mining small ammounts in bulk, a lot at a time, quanity runs that operation. Consider finds of the past, some hundreds of oz's to the ton. A ton of quartz is no more than 3 ft square! You can definitely see gold like that> Factually, its been found in the past, and its still out there.

Thats why people like myself, Dan, Ken, Stanley, Castle, Pharo, are fighting to keep the deserts open. We have different reasons, but the end result is the same, keep it open.

Now imagine you are mining 10 ozs to the ton, but the greenies decide you need to pack everything in on foot, horse, mule. What would you do? They want us to regress 150 years..

Where is Slow Poke Joe? He was big into prospecting and mining. Anybody know how to contact SPJ???
